Albert Hall – Where time stands still

The Ram Nivas Garden is known for its picturesque beauty that captures the essence of local Jaipur life beautifully. The area has been intact for many a years now, with a functioning zoo, playgrounds and other structures. The running tongas and rikshaws only increase the beauty of the place. The central attraction of Ram Nivas Garden is the Albert Hall museum, which is basically a history nerd heaven.

Named after the Prince of Wales, Albert Edward, Albert hall displays breathtaking examples of workmanship of local arts from all over India. The museum is one of the oldest in the country that has been operational since 1887.

The best time to visit this museum is in the evening, as the sun set increases the beauty of the building tenfold. The museum has a variety of sections ranging from dolls to weapons and artifacts collected from all parts of the world. The Egyptian section in particular is something to look forward to. Something worth noticing is the floral carvings on every marble pillar. It is beautiful and bewildering how the designer got the different leaves to wrap around the pillars in such detail.

Touring the museum takes 3 to 4 hours, when you exit the building sit next to one of the many bhelpuri walas and have a little snack. You can see children playing around, ladies taking a stroll and small groups busy in their yogasana.

Albert Hall is one of the lesser known destinations of India but should totally be a ‘must visit’ on your list when you visit Jaipur next.
