A walk upto Nrupatunga Betta

Hubli-Nrupatunga Betta

I just reached Hubli and was looking wishing to visit some place different other than lakes and malls. Asking around I came to know that there is a hilltop outside the town called Nrupatunga Betta. A local at Unkal lake told me that the place is actually a pile of dirt and I will only get bad image about this city if I go there, if I am able to ignore that then the place is fairly fine visit.
So after having lunch at Urban Oasis Mall (that was a huge mistake) I took an auto rikshaw and asked him to drop me there. Auto driver told me that the place was the best choice to visit in the evening to see the sunset and a fine panoramic view of Hubli City.
In my mind I was prepared that there will be a lot of climbing and trekking because I just returned from Agumbe where autos used to stop at a point and then you were supposed to walk a few kilometers on your own to reach your destination. I was fully prepared to conquer the mighty Nrupatunga Betta of Hubli city.
The auto driver kept driving in full speed and we even passed a curve that reminded me of Western Ghats. In my mind I was totally prepared for an experience of a life time. After a 40 minute drive the auto stopped on the outskirts of the city. I was wondering as there was no trek, no uphill climb or hiking point.
The autowala told me that this was the legendary Nrupatunga Betta. There were stairs to climb on the top of the view point where a small garden is made. The point gives you a clear view of Hubli and upto Unkal Lake at a distance. From the other side you can see the villages with farms as well. A lot of families and some couples were enjoying their solitary time. It was almost evening and people were slowly leaving the place. On a distance lights were slowly illuminating Hubli that was slowly falling in dark.
That was when I decided to leave for the town.
